An early, explicit licensing regime

Thailand moved in 2018 with a dedicated instrument rather than by extending securities law. The Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses defines digital tokens and cryptocurrencies separately and requires operators to be licensed by category, with approval from the Ministry of Finance on the recommendation of the SEC.

What is checkable

Because licensing is by named category, the SEC publishes which firms hold which licence. That register is the primary check on any claim that a platform is “regulated in Thailand” — a claim which, without a category and an entry, means little.
